The Sue de Vries Cancer Foundation has joined forces with The Mass General/North Shore Medical Center in Danvers to provide free wellness programming to cancer patients and their families. The hospital has an incredible program that is completely in synch with our mission. It offers a slew of wellness services, including massage, reiki, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and support groups, to name a few. We are so thrilled to be able to provide these treatments in Sue’s name, thus carrying forth her vision. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the hospital now includes a Sue de Vries Wellness Room. The room is meant to be a place of peace, where people can go to receive wellness treatments of their choice, free of charge, hopefully taking some pressure off of an otherwise stressful situation. Yoga Live Fund Raiser - Sunday April, 26, 2009
Thank you to all who helped to make our first Yoga Live a fabulous event! It was such a wonderful collaborative effort. Anne Gilbride, Tricia Porter, Kevin Mastronadi, Elaine Wintman and Willa Wolsford joined Larisa and Danielle to teach a beautiful flowing practice. The musicians, John Bohemer, Oen Kennedy, Alec Kassoff, Tracy Anderson and Liz Glow, were a perfect compliment to the yoga.
There was an incredible energy in the room created by all the yogis, yoginis and dedicated volunteers who helped to make the day special. As a teacher, looking out at the audience and seeing all those bodies following their inner light, was breathtaking. Young and old, beginners and advanced practitioners all sharing the space and moving together!
It was such a joy to see Sue’s daughter Haley, 13, in the front row. And how cool to see Rabbi B and Rabbi Kassoff lined up mat-to-mat? And to top it off Joey Karas in a headstand!
We want to thank Temple Emanu-El, and all our sponsors, The Yoga Loft, Whole Foods, Empower Yoga Studio, Green Tea Yoga, Bikram Yoga of Swampscott, Swallowtail Teacher Training and Healthworks Fitness For Women.
Hats off to our teachers and musicians, massage therapists Linda Overhiser and Leah Bokencamp, chiropractor Paul Milone and nutritionist, Nancy Hamlin. And thanks to our interns, Brett Depper-Goldstein and Ben Karas.
Stay tuned for Yoga Live in the Fall!!!
Namaste, the Sue de Vries Cancer Foundation
2nd ANNUAL GOLDEN GALA FOR WELLNESS - May 9, 2008 The second annual Gala for the Sue deVries Cancer Foundation was a huge success! The party spot this year was Kernwood Country Club in Salem. Cocktail hour kicked off with martinis, compliments of Grey Goose Vodka and wine donated by Kappy's Liquors. Folks mingled and bid on fabulous items. A delicious dinner was donated and served by Celebrations Gourmet Catering. Weatherman Matt Noyes got the party going with a live auction. Green Monster seats, Celtics playoff tickets and tickets to Eric Clapton were just a few of the hot items up for grabs. Valerie Rosenberg, Wellness Community participant at Sue's Circle of Hope, gave a moving and inspirational speech on her experience at the Center. It was a special evening to raise awareness for a great cause and honor Sue and all those brave souls in their battle with cancer. Thanks to our hosts, Kernwood and Celebrations Gourmet caterers. And a special thanks to Janie Haas and Domenic for their exquisite taste and style! Stay tuned: next year's party could be over the top...
